This particular example illustrates what can happen at the extreme end of the paradigm, but it's founded on an idea that permeates society in all kinds of lesser ways. I'm not saying it's in any way legal or condoned in any official capacity, (although from my limited information it seems that sometimes honour killings pass under the radar and some of the jail terms seem a bit wimpy).
Ah right now I see your point.
I think I did, and sorry about the confusion. I think the idea of being 'forced' to do anything for no practical reason is probably a good criteron for separating human rights from cultural norms, except for the few people who might say they would choose to do it anyway.
No culture anywhere is perfect, and all have a range petty idiosyncrasies, social inequities and very big problems. But there's also the issue of being respectful of other cultures as a way to respecting other people. It seems that in some ways we're better off with cuture, and in some ways it just sucks, because there's just no logic behind it.
It's okay, actually I thank you because I had to look it up myself and so added extra word to my vocabulary

oh and I don't know, Sex discrimination In western world seems a bit overrated issue to me, maybe because I haven't met much examples of it personally.
